Removing Huge mango worm in dog | Mango worms removal 2025 #01

Mango worms (also called putzi fly) are the larvae of mango/tumbo fly. The females lay eggs in damp soil and from there the larvae latch on to a host to continue growing.
This is a major concern for pet owners as pets, especially dogs, have the habit of digging and resting in moist or damp areas as the common method of infestation is direct contact with the soil.
If you suspect your pet has mango worms, you can try to apply Vaseline to suffocate the larvae, then carefully squeeze it out. This has to be done very carefully as it is painful for the dog and can cause infections if not done properly. Mango worms definitely need to be treated as the infestation can seriously harm your pet – and infect other members of the family.
To prevent mango fly infection, do your best to eliminate damp areas in your yard. Provide elevated dry areas to prevent your dog from lying in the ground, and change any bedding regularly.
PS: for humans, it is advised to iron clothes that are dried outside to kill off any larvae.
